Project 52 Photo Challenge : Accessorizing (15/52)

This week’s Project 52 theme was Accoutrements — you know: all the little accessories, toys, and personal effects that our pets accumulate over the course of their lives.

Since my dogs are a little, uh, spoiled, I had a tough time choosing what to photograph this week. But as I was headed out to garden the other evening, Maddie rounded the corner with her favorite (and admittedly pretty nasty looking) stuffed raccoon in tow and I decided he would make a perfect subject for this week’s theme. Despite having originally purchased this little guy to curb Bruce’s squirrel obsession, Maddie has commandeered him and carries him around with her everywhere.

Don’t tell Maddie, but we are actually on Raccoon #3 or 4 by now. They are marketed as “not having any stuffing” but yeah. There’s stuffing in them. Maddie always finds it, and deposits it lovingly on my area rugs; the little lifeless raccoon body has to go in the trash (and a replacement quickly secured). You might notice in the bottom image that she has unceremoniously (and kind of viciously) ripped the top of his neck open — presumably to get to the stuffing in his nose. She’s old and kind of cute, but she’s fierce, and by god she takes no crap from Raccoons.

Up next in the blog ring, let’s see what (most likely way less gross and violent) accessory¬†Steph Skardal has in store for us!
