Project 52 Photo Challenge : Tribute (22/52)

I got to pick the theme this week for the Project 52 Challenge (yay!) and I guess I kind of chose a hard one (sorry, fellow project members!). The theme this week was Tribute, and it’s a project I enjoyed working on wayyy back in art school. The idea was to choose an image (a famous or iconic photograph, painting, sculpture or other work of art) and recreate our own interpretation of it. My original idea was to pay homage to one of the fashion greats, Helmut Newton or Richard Avedon, but at the last minute I had a killer idea and decided to turn things around a bit.

So, without leaving you in suspense any longer, I bring you…

The image that defined the 2008 Presidential elections, plus one statuesque little Boston Terrier.

The original image is, of course, “Hope” by Shepard Fairey, which itself was based on a photograph by Associated Press photographer Mannie Garcia. Fairey’s original work now hangs in the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery.

Up next in the blog ring we have Stephanie Madeline — let’s see what she’s been up to this week!
